Crime Novels

1. The Mission by Frank Herbert

This novel is the book where I fell in love with the mystery genre. It takes place in a Victorian reality where the creatures or demons that occupy the old or former ages are an evil force that caused much suffering.

These hideous creatures that inhabited the world actually find the question of what they are inside a great source of fascination, and a whole other world that is brilliant. The major characters are three different people with very good relationships. Dr. Bruce Thomas begins to suspect that a group of creatures that exist in the world today may have a hidden connection with the older creatures in the past. He discovers that they must be controlled and it turns out that they are fascinated by evil thoughts and manipulation.

The book itself leaves you in hysterics for a day or two, you had not enjoyed a Frankenstein novel until this one. The story that Frank Herbert tells in this novel is chilling and amazing. He utilizes different “realistic” features in this novel and it isn’t a fairytale. Everything that he said came to life and it really shows the readers that even though fiction, anything that occurs in this novel may occur in a real-world or near future. So anyone who wants to see the world in a different light can read this novel.

2. The Body Snatchers by Philip K. Dick

This is a novel full of paranoia and despair, but oh man it is just so compelling and horrifying that you have to give it a chance. The plot is horrifying and just a work of horror complete with countless grisly discoveries and elaborate circumstances.

If you enjoyed Person of Interest or The Wire, then you should probably read this. The story of Vincent Vega, who is a Los Angeles cop, sends over hopes for the future, but at the same time, he finds that the memories of his own life are in danger. He is sitting in a hospital at the height of the alien attacks, and eventually, he realizes that he is up against enemies who have penetrated the world of the regular people.

As a cop, he has seen a lot, and the book just tells us how unlucky we are that police think they can protect society from aliens, however, not all aliens that lurk in our society are bad, in fact, they may be a very good thing. The power is in their own hands and that’s why Vincent Vega is out to find them before they strike.

3. Garrow’s Law by and novel on the life of Paul Garrow

Like most American novels, The Garrow’s Law offers a wide range of thriller action and thrills, but there is something more here that makes this novel astonishing. I would say that this book is less based on certain other books. The plot of this book, the story of Garrow, is very interesting and I won’t get into that, but just know that it has a brilliant twist that leaves the readers completely surprised at the end of the novel.

4. Crucible by Arthur Miller

Crucible is another masterpiece in the genre of mysteries and thrillers, and if you’re looking for an anti-matter thriller, you’ll find it. Some of the characters will have some characters that are exposed to some very dark secrets and some would think they are just obsessed with the truth. In the end, he just can’t get away from the demons inside him.

According to Wikipedia, “The Crucible takes place in a country in the mid-1600s and follows the exploits of Reverend John Hale who embarks on a systematic investigation into the unexplained behavior of the inhabitants of a Puritan community in John Proctor’s surrounding town.” The novel is driven by the detective director Abigail Williams as she tries to deduce what is going on, and what she discovers is frightening in many ways. The book is filled with scenes that leave the reader perplexed and intrigued by what happens next. The themes of this story are very religious.

5. The Crucible by Arthur Miller

This is another wonderful Arthur Miller novel based in Salem, Massachusetts. Arthur Miller’s novel focuses on the year that the murder of Abigail Williams. According to The Criterion - The Crucible has been covered extensively, but what is the author renowned for? Or rather, what are the readers’ favorite bits of the book? Personally, I found this book to be incredibly interesting and captivating, I would recommend it. I loved it but really? I’m just so intrigued by what lies ahead. I don’t know any more than the reader though, but I can say that I absolutely recommend reading the book at least once.
